DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 361 OF 365

Faithful Testimony Through Apparent Defeat

Read Revelation 11

The two witnesses in Revelation 11 receive power to prophesy, yet their story includes public humiliation and death. Their miraculous authority does not mean that opposition can never wound them. The beast kills them after they have finished their testimony, and the watching world celebrates their apparent defeat. Then God gives them life and publicly summons them into heaven. For John’s readers, this movement separates faithful witness from the expectation of uninterrupted visible success. Interpreters differ over whether these witnesses represent particular individuals or the witnessing people of God, but the narrative’s contrast remains clear: human hostility cannot overturn God’s final verdict. The chapter honors both supernatural power and costly perseverance. We should welcome God’s miraculous work without measuring every faithful ministry by immediate safety or applause. The witnesses’ vindication directs our confidence toward God rather than toward the crowd’s assessment.

What does the movement from empowered prophecy to death and divine vindication teach you about how to recognize faithful witness?

A prayerful response

Lord God, strengthen your people to bear faithful witness. Work among us in power, and give us endurance when obedience brings rejection. Free me from needing public approval, and anchor my confidence in your final judgment.
