DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 351 OF 365

The Majestic Lord Who Draws Near

Read Revelation 1

John’s vision brings overwhelming majesty and personal reassurance into the same encounter. Writing to seven assemblies in Asia, he identifies himself as their brother and partner in oppression and perseverance. He does not speak as someone untouched by their difficulties. Then he sees Jesus among the lamp stands, which represent those assemblies. The churches facing hardship are not absent from their Lord’s attention. His blazing eyes, powerful voice, and radiant face overwhelm John, who falls before him. Yet this glorious Lord places his right hand on John and addresses his fear. His reassurance rests on who he is: the one who died, lives forever, and holds authority over Death and Hades. For believers now, confidence does not require making Jesus less majestic or pretending suffering is unreal. We can face hardship because the risen Lord is present with his churches and death is not beyond his authority.

Put the Word into practice

Name one fear connected to suffering or death in prayer, then reread Revelation 1:12–18 and place that fear before Jesus in light of his presence and authority.

How do Jesus’ position among the lamp stands and his words about death reshape the way you understand the hardship John shares with these churches?

A prayerful response

Risen Jesus, your glory is greater than I can grasp, yet you draw near with compassion. Meet me in my fear. Teach me to persevere with your people, trusting your living presence and your authority even when hardship remains. Amen.
