DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 338 OF 365
Grace Entrusted for Someone Else
Read 1 Peter 4In 1 Peter 4:8–11, Peter turns a pressured church toward earnest love, open homes, and shared service. Believers facing hostility might understandably become absorbed in protecting themselves. Instead, Peter teaches them to care for one another with the resources God supplies. A gift is not presented as a badge of importance but as grace entrusted to someone for another person’s benefit. Speaking requires reverence because words offered in God’s service carry serious responsibility. Practical service requires dependence because its strength comes from God rather than personal reserves alone. Even hospitality has an inward test: welcoming people while resenting them falls short of Peter’s instruction. For believers today, the same pattern redirects attention from being recognized to being useful. The goal of every gift is that God receives glory through Jesus Christ.
Put the Word into practice
Choose one person in your church to serve this week through a meal, practical help, or thoughtful encouragement, using an ability or resource God has entrusted to you and refusing to turn the task into a complaint.
Search the Scripture
In light of Peter’s instructions about gifts and hospitality, where has grumbling or a desire for recognition weakened your service to others?
A prayerful response
Father, thank you for entrusting your grace to ordinary people. Free me from serving for recognition and from resenting the needs around me. Supply strength for generous service, and let Jesus be honored through what I offer. Amen.
