DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 335 OF 365
Grieved, Yet Held by Living Hope
Read 1 Peter 1Peter places genuine grief and genuine joy side by side. The believers addressed as foreigners are experiencing various trials, yet their future is not defined by those trials. God’s mercy has given them new birth into a living hope through Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Their inheritance cannot decay, become defiled, or fade, and God guards them through faith. This security does not make their pain imaginary. Peter explicitly acknowledges their grief while describing faith as more precious than perishable gold. Testing reveals the worth of trust that continues to love Jesus without seeing him. The movement is from present distress toward Christ’s revelation, when that faith will result in praise, glory, and honor. Christian hope is therefore more substantial than expecting circumstances to improve soon. It rests in the risen Jesus and the salvation God is bringing, allowing sorrow and deep joy to coexist.
Put the Word into practice
Write down one trial that is grieving you, then beside it list what verses 3–9 say remains secure because Jesus is risen. Use that contrast to guide your prayer today.

What distinction does Peter make between the grief of present trials and the security of the inheritance God has reserved for believers?
A prayerful response
Father, thank you for giving me living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. Meet me in real grief without letting grief define my future. Guard my faith, deepen my love for the Savior I cannot yet see, and anchor my joy in your lasting salvation.
