DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 318 OF 365
The Savior Who Shares Our Weakness
Read Hebrews 2Jesus does not rescue humanity by remaining distant from human suffering. Hebrews 2 traces his deliberate movement into our condition: he shared flesh and blood, suffered death, and became a merciful and faithful high priest for his people. For the original hearers, his suffering was not evidence that he lacked glory; it belonged to the way God was bringing many children to glory. His solidarity with us also has a saving purpose. Through death he breaks the devil’s power and releases people enslaved by the fear of death. He makes atonement for sins, addressing our guilt as well as our fear. The chapter ends with deeply practical comfort: because Jesus suffered when tempted, he can help those being tempted. We approach someone who understands suffering from within and has acted decisively to save.

A prayerful response
Jesus, thank you for entering our human condition and bearing death for us. Meet me in my temptation, loosen fear’s grip on me, and help me trust your mercy enough to obey you.
