DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 314 OF 365
Grace That Teaches Us to Live
Read Titus 2Grace does more than announce rescue in Titus 2; it becomes our teacher. After giving Titus instructions for different groups within the believing community, Paul explains the foundation beneath their changed conduct: God's saving grace has appeared. Its instruction includes both refusal and pursuit. Believers turn away from ungodliness and disordered desires while learning self-control, righteousness, and devotion to God in their present circumstances. This training is not payment for salvation. Jesus gave himself to redeem and purify a people who belong to him. Good works grow from that belonging. Nor does expectation of his glorious appearing make everyday faithfulness unimportant. Hope directs attention toward the returning Savior while grace shapes conduct now. The chapter joins a future expectation to a present responsibility: people waiting for Jesus should become increasingly eager to do what is good.

A prayerful response
Jesus, thank you for giving yourself to redeem me. Let your grace train my desires, choices, and habits. Make the hope of your appearing a source of present faithfulness, and awaken eagerness in me to do good. Amen.
