DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 311 OF 365
Let Scripture Do Its Whole Work
Read 2 Timothy 3Scripture's usefulness reaches beyond giving us information to shaping the people we become. After describing deception and counterfeit godliness, Paul urges Timothy to remain grounded in the sacred writings he has known since childhood. Those writings direct him toward salvation through faith in Christ Jesus; their purpose is not detached religious expertise. Paul then explains their divine origin and their practical work: they teach, expose wrong, set us straight, and train us in righteous living. Each function matters. If we welcome instruction but resist correction, we are refusing part of the help God provides. The intended result is a person equipped to do good, not simply someone skilled at recognizing everyone else's failures. Timothy needed this grounding amid corrupt teaching and opposition. We likewise need to approach Scripture ready for it to challenge our conduct as well as strengthen our understanding.
Put the Word into practice
Reread 2 Timothy 3:1–5, identify one attitude in that list that appears in your own conduct, and write down a specific change that puts the chapter's correction into practice.
Search the Scripture
Where are you willing to receive Scripture's teaching but reluctant to accept its reproof or correction?
A prayerful response
God, thank you for Scripture that leads me toward faith in Jesus and trains me to live faithfully. Give me a teachable heart when your Word exposes what is wrong. Let what I learn become visible in the good I do. Amen.
