DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 306 OF 365

A Gift to Exercise, a Life to Watch

Read 1 Timothy 4

Timothy's spiritual gift was not meant to remain an unused memory of a meaningful moment. Paul reminds him that it was given through prophecy with the elders' laying on of hands, then calls him into sustained attention and practice. The gift belongs alongside public reading, encouragement, teaching, and a life that demonstrates faith and purity. Paul does not name the gift here, so we should not assign it a specific form. What is clear is that receiving a gift does not remove the need for diligence or growth. This passage gives us reason to welcome prophetic ministry and spiritual gifting while refusing to separate them from character and faithful teaching. For believers now, honoring the Spirit's work includes using what he gives in service, accepting accountable encouragement, and allowing others to see genuine progress rather than merely hear claims.

How do the commands surrounding verse 14 explain what faithful stewardship of Timothy's gift should look like?

A prayerful response

Holy Spirit, help me welcome your work without neglecting the responsibilities that accompany your gifts. Make me diligent, teachable, and pure. Let my service help others, and let my growth be evident in how I live.
