DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 298 OF 365
Grief That Still Has Hope
Read 1 Thessalonians 4Paul does not ask the Thessalonians to stop grieving. He addresses their sorrow by explaining what the return of Jesus means for believers who have died. Their death will not leave them behind when the Lord comes. The dead in Christ will rise, and living believers will be gathered together with them to meet him. Notice where this teaching leads: not to calculating dates, but to comforting one another. Its foundation is the death and resurrection of Jesus, and its destination is lasting fellowship with him. For believers today, Christian hope does not make loss painless or tears faithless. It gives grief a horizon beyond separation. We can acknowledge the ache honestly while remembering that those who belong to Jesus are not excluded from his future. Paul places this assurance in the hands of the whole church as a ministry of mutual comfort.
Put the Word into practice
Reach out to a believer grieving someone who died in Christ. Acknowledge the loss without rushing their sorrow, and gently share the hope of resurrection and reunion described in verses 13–18.

A prayerful response
Lord Jesus, meet us in the sorrow of separation. Help us trust your resurrection and your promised return. Teach us to comfort grieving people with patience, tenderness, and the hope of being with you forever. Amen.
