DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 293 OF 365

Dress for the Life Christ Has Given

Read Colossians 3

Paul tells the Colossian believers to put away destructive behavior and put on qualities that fit their new life in Christ. The clothing image makes holiness relational and practical: anger, slander, and lies must give way to compassion, humility, patience, and forgiveness. Notice the order in verses 12–14. Paul first identifies these believers as chosen, holy, and loved; then he describes how they should treat one another. Their conduct is to express their belonging to God, not purchase it. Forgiveness receives a particularly clear measure: Christ’s forgiveness of them. A genuine complaint does not cancel this calling, because Paul explicitly addresses relationships where complaints exist. Love then holds these qualities together. For us, renewed life is not merely a private change of outlook. It becomes visible in how we respond when another person disappoints, irritates, or wrongs us.

Put the Word into practice

Identify one complaint you are holding against another believer. Before your next interaction, pray through Colossians 3:12–14 and prepare one response marked by compassion rather than accusation.

Search the Scripture

When a complaint arises, which qualities from verses 12–14 are missing from your response, and how does Christ’s forgiveness challenge that response?

A prayerful response

Lord Jesus, thank you for forgiving me and making me yours. Expose the anger and pride I keep wearing. Form compassion, patience, and love in me, especially toward the person I find difficult to forgive. Help my conduct reflect your mercy. Amen.
