DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 291 OF 365
Power That Produces Patient Joy
Read Colossians 1When Paul prays for the Colossian believers to receive divine strength, he names endurance, perseverance, and joy as its intended results. That connection deserves our attention. God’s glorious power is not measured here by escape from every difficulty, but by a people enabled to remain faithful within difficulty. This strength belongs within a larger prayer for a life pleasing to the Lord: growing in understanding, doing good, and giving thanks. Paul then grounds thanksgiving in what the Father has already accomplished through his Son. These believers have been rescued from darkness and brought into the Son’s kingdom, where forgiveness is theirs. Endurance is therefore not an attempt to earn rescue. It is the sustained life of those God has rescued. We may ask boldly for God’s power while recognizing that patient, joyful faithfulness is itself a significant expression of his work.
Put the Word into practice
Choose one ongoing responsibility that is testing your patience. Before returning to it today, pray specifically for endurance and joy, then complete the next necessary act of service with deliberate gratitude for Christ’s forgiveness.

A prayerful response
Father, thank you for rescuing me through your beloved Son. Fill me with understanding that leads to a life pleasing to you. Strengthen me where I am weary, and produce patient faithfulness and sincere joy rather than bitterness or retreat. Amen.
