DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 286 OF 365

Prayer at the Heart of the Battle

Read Ephesians 6

The armor passage in Ephesians 6 leads directly into persevering prayer, and Paul makes its purpose personal by asking believers to pray for his witness. He writes as an imprisoned ambassador who needs courage to explain the Good News. His request is not centered on defeating human opponents or securing an easier assignment. He wants words and boldness to fulfill the responsibility he has received. This gives practical direction to the chapter’s teaching about spiritual conflict. Because the struggle reaches beyond human enemies, believers must depend on the Lord rather than treating people as the ultimate enemy. Prayer in the Spirit accompanies their readiness to stand, extending beyond personal concerns to all God’s people. Paul’s chains have not canceled his mission, and his calling has not removed his need for help. Even an apostle asks the church to support his faithful speech through prayer.

Put the Word into practice

What does Paul’s request for bold speech while imprisoned reveal about the purpose of spiritual readiness in this chapter?

A prayerful response

Lord, teach me to stand in your strength rather than turn people into enemies. Lead me by your Spirit in persevering prayer. Give those who proclaim Jesus clarity, courage, and faithfulness, especially where their witness is costly. Amen.
