A Gift That Becomes Thanksgiving

Read 2 Corinthians 9

The Corinthians’ contribution would do more than fill a material shortage. Paul traces a beautiful movement from provision to generosity, from generosity to thanksgiving, and from thanksgiving to deeper affection between believers. Those receiving help would glorify God because the Corinthians’ actions demonstrated obedience to their confession of Christ. They would also pray for the givers and long for them because of God’s grace at work among them. The harvest Paul describes therefore reaches beyond money: needs are met, righteousness bears fruit, God receives praise, and fellowship grows. His language about enrichment serves this outward purpose, not a promise of personal luxury. God’s provision equips his people for generosity and good works. When we give, we participate in service whose significance includes both the person helped and the worship offered to God.

Put the Word into practice

Give a thoughtfully chosen gift toward a believer’s concrete need, and pray that the help will strengthen their gratitude to God and your fellowship with them.

A prayerful response

Generous Father, let what you place in my hands become help for others. Meet real needs through my giving, deepen love among your people, and receive the thanksgiving that belongs to you.
