DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 261 OF 365
Generosity Before the Urgent Moment
Read 1 Corinthians 16The collection for believers begins with a practical instruction: set something aside regularly. Paul asks the Corinthians to prepare their gift week by week, in keeping with what each person has received, rather than waiting for his arrival. This makes generosity a deliberate practice instead of a last-minute response to an influential visitor. The amount is related to provision, so the instruction recognizes differences in people's resources without excusing anyone from thoughtful participation. Paul also invites the congregation to approve those who will carry the gift to Jerusalem. Willing giving and responsible handling belong together. For the original congregation, these arrangements turned concern for other believers into organized help. For us, the passage challenges the gap between intending to be generous and actually preparing to give. Love for fellow believers can take the ordinary form of a planned, proportionate contribution.

A prayerful response
Lord, make my concern for your people practical. Help me plan generously within what you have provided, and give those handling shared gifts wisdom and integrity. Amen.
