DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 255 OF 365
The Escape Must Be Taken
Read 1 Corinthians 10Paul places a strong warning beside a strong assurance. Israel’s shared spiritual privileges did not prevent many from falling into evil, and the Corinthians must not mistake their own confidence for safety. Yet temptation does not place them beyond God’s faithful care. God provides a way to endure rather than surrender to sin. Notice how Paul immediately makes that assurance practical: the Corinthians must flee idolatry. Trusting God’s faithfulness is not permission to remain close to what threatens their allegiance to him. The escape may involve leaving rather than proving how much pressure they can withstand. Paul then explains that participation at the Lord’s table cannot be combined with participation in demonic worship. For believers today, the assurance remains deeply encouraging: temptation is not invincible. But confidence belongs in God, and that confidence expresses itself through obedient action rather than spiritual bravado.
Put the Word into practice
Name one recurring temptation and remove a specific point of access today, treating that departure as obedience rather than as a test of your strength.

How does Paul’s command to flee idolatry clarify what relying on God’s promised way of escape can look like?
A prayerful response
Faithful God, expose the confidence that makes me careless. Thank you that temptation does not have to rule me. Help me recognize the way of escape you provide and act on it with wholehearted loyalty to you.
