DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 242 OF 365
Stop Preparing a Place for Sin
Read Romans 13The closing movement of Romans 13 turns approaching daylight into a call for moral wakefulness. Paul tells believers that salvation is nearer than when they first believed, so their present habits should match the coming day rather than the fading night. His examples include drunkenness and sexual wrongdoing, but also strife and jealousy. Respectable-looking hostility is not exempt from the call to holiness. The final command makes the response concrete: put on the Lord Jesus Christ and stop arranging opportunities for sinful desire. This is more than regretting failure afterward. It means refusing to supply what helps the old pattern continue. Paul gives his Roman readers no timetable for predicting the day; he gives them a reason to live differently now. Hope in Christ’s coming should produce alert, practical allegiance to Christ today.
Put the Word into practice
Identify one arrangement that feeds a sin named in Romans 13:13, such as access to intoxicants, a sexually compromising exchange, or a conversation that fuels jealousy. Remove that provision today as an act of allegiance to Jesus.

A prayerful response
Lord Jesus, awaken me where I have grown comfortable with darkness. Help me stop preparing opportunities for sin and shape my habits to reflect your rule. Let hope make me attentive and obedient today. Amen.
