DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 229 OF 365

An Open Door Under Guard

Read Acts 28

Acts closes with a striking contrast: Paul remains under guard, yet his teaching about Jesus proceeds openly. In Rome, he cannot move about freely, but he can welcome people into his lodging. He gathers Jewish leaders, explains his situation, and later spends an entire day persuading listeners about Jesus from the law and the prophets. Some believe; others do not. Their divided response does not end his witness. The chapter concludes with two years of receiving visitors and proclaiming God’s kingdom with boldness. Paul’s restrictions are real, but they do not define the whole possibility of his obedience. For readers today, this is not a promise that every barrier will disappear. It is an invitation to notice the people we can still receive and the truth we can still share. Faithful mission may continue through a door that hardship has left open.

Put the Word into practice

Invite one person into a setting available to you this week—a home, a phone call, or a conversation—and offer to discuss who Jesus is, listening respectfully to their response.

What does Paul’s practice of receiving visitors suggest about an opportunity for witness within my present restrictions?

A prayerful response

Lord Jesus, help me recognize opportunities that remain within my limitations. Give me Paul’s welcome, patience, and courage. Keep me faithful when responses differ, and make the spaces available to me places where people can hear about you. Amen.
