DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 225 OF 365

The Danger of a More Convenient Time

Read Acts 24

Felix does not lack opportunities to hear about faith in Christ Jesus. In Acts 24, he listens as Paul reasons about righteousness, self-control, and coming judgment. His fear shows that the message reaches him, but fear alone is not repentance. He sends Paul away until a more convenient time, while continuing to hope for a bribe. The contrast is searching: Felix hears about righteousness while entertaining corruption, and about judgment while using his authority to seek personal advantage. His repeated conversations with Paul do not become evidence of obedience. By the chapter’s end, political favor still matters more to him than justice for the prisoner. Paul’s message to this governor reminds us that faith in Jesus addresses conduct, not merely religious interest. We can keep listening, discussing, and feeling unsettled while avoiding the very response the truth requires. A convenient future can become a refuge from present obedience.

Put the Word into practice

Name one act of obedience you have postponed despite knowing it is right, and do it today rather than scheduling another period of reflection about it.

How do Felix’s hope for money and desire for political favor reveal what his repeated conversations with Paul failed to change?

A prayerful response

Lord Jesus, do not let me substitute interest in your truth for obedience to it. Bring my hidden motives into the light, lead me to repentance, and help me respond honestly when your word unsettles me.
