DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 224 OF 365
A Promise and a Practical Response
Read Acts 23The Lord’s encouragement to Paul in Acts 23 is followed almost immediately by a murder conspiracy. More than forty men commit themselves to killing him, yet the Lord has already told Paul that his witness will continue in Rome. Notice how the chapter holds divine assurance and practical action together. When Paul’s nephew discovers the plot, Paul does not dismiss the warning as unnecessary. He arranges for the young man to speak to the commanding officer, whose orders lead to a guarded transfer. The Lord’s specific promise to Paul does not make human participation irrelevant. Instead, the narrative places a relative’s courage, Paul’s judgment, and military protection alongside that promise. We are not given Paul’s personal guarantee about Rome, but we can learn from his response: trusting the Lord need not mean ignoring danger or refusing available help. Faith can act wisely while resting in God’s care.
Put the Word into practice
If you know of a credible threat to someone’s safety, follow the pattern of Paul and his nephew by reporting the facts promptly to a responsible person able to help.

What do Paul’s instructions to the centurion reveal about the relationship between trusting the Lord’s promise and responding to a real threat?
A prayerful response
Faithful Lord, strengthen my trust when circumstances become threatening. Give me courage to speak, wisdom to receive help, and humility to recognize care that comes through other people’s responsible actions.
