DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 218 OF 365
A Welcome That Examines
Read Acts 17The people in Beroea show that an eager welcome and careful examination belong together. When Paul and Silas enter their synagogue, these hearers neither reject the message reflexively nor accept it merely because the messengers speak confidently. They receive the word readily and examine the Scriptures daily to test what they hear. In this setting, the question concerns Paul's proclamation that Jesus is the Christ who suffered and rose from the dead. Their searching is not a way to avoid believing; many believe as a result. Luke commends this combination of openness and discernment. For us, the lesson is not to become suspicious of every teacher, but to give Scripture greater weight than a speaker's reputation or our first impressions. A teachable heart welcomes truth enough to investigate it and responds when the evidence calls for faith.
Put the Word into practice
Review one teaching you heard recently about Jesus. Read Acts 17:1–12 and identify whether that teaching preserves the chapter's emphasis on his suffering, resurrection, and identity as the Christ.
Search the Scripture
How do the Bereans' readiness to receive the message and their daily examination of Scripture challenge the way you evaluate teaching?
A prayerful response
Father, give me an eager mind and a discerning heart. Keep me from both careless acceptance and stubborn resistance. Let the truth about Jesus shape what I believe and how I live.
