DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 194 OF 365
Not Left as Orphans
Read John 14As Jesus prepares his disciples for his departure, he promises more than instructions to remember. He promises the Counselor, the Spirit of truth, who will remain with them. Their relationship with Jesus will not collapse into abandonment when they can no longer see him. Notice how closely this promise sits beside his teaching about obedience: love for Jesus takes shape in keeping his commands, and his followers are not left to live that love in isolation. The promise that the Spirit would remind them of Jesus’ teaching speaks directly to these disciples who had heard him. Present-day believers can also welcome the Spirit’s abiding presence while keeping Jesus’ words central. His peace does not depend on visible circumstances becoming reassuring. It rests in his faithful care and the divine presence he promises to his people.

Father, thank you for not abandoning your people. Holy Spirit, help me understand and obey Jesus’ words. When fear rises, turn my attention toward his faithful presence and teach me to receive his peace. Amen.
