DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 184 OF 365
An Invitation That Leads Beyond the Messenger
Read John 4The Samaritan woman’s witness begins with an invitation, not a claim to understand everything about Jesus. After he reveals knowledge of her life and identifies himself as the Messiah, she goes into the city and urges people to investigate for themselves. Her testimony matters: many Samaritans initially believe because of what she says. Yet the account does not leave their faith resting on her experience. They come to Jesus, ask him to remain, and hear his teaching. Their confession grows into a recognition that he is the world’s Savior. This movement gives Christian witness a clear direction. We speak honestly about Jesus so that others may encounter his words, rather than become dependent on our personality or experience. The woman who first questioned why a Jewish man would speak to her becomes the messenger through whom her neighbors come to hear him.
Put the Word into practice
Invite one person to read John 4:7–42 with you. Briefly explain why Jesus matters to you, then give that person room to engage directly with what he says.
Search the Scripture
What changes between the Samaritans’ initial belief in verse 39 and their confession in verse 42, and how should that shape your witness?
A prayerful response
Jesus, give me the woman’s willingness to speak and her readiness to point beyond herself. Help me invite others without pretending to know everything. Let my words open a door for them to hear you and recognize you as Savior. Amen.
