DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 158 OF 365

From Hearing to Wonder to Witness

Read Luke 2

The shepherds do not remain in the field admiring what they have heard. In Luke 2:15–20, the angelic announcement moves them toward Jesus, and finding him moves them toward others. The sign is strikingly humble: the Savior announced with heavenly glory is a baby lying in a feeding trough. His surroundings do not cancel his identity. When the shepherds find things as they were told, they spread the message about this child and return praising God. Their witness rests on what God made known and what they actually encountered, not on embellishment. Mary responds differently, treasuring and considering these things inwardly. Luke makes room for both thoughtful pondering and joyful proclamation. For us, the shepherds’ response challenges a faith that only collects information. The good news about Jesus deserves attention, trust, and honest expression.

How does the shepherds’ movement from hearing to going, speaking, and praising challenge the way you respond to the announcement of Jesus?

A prayerful response

Father, help me receive the good news of Jesus with fresh attention. Give me a heart that ponders your work and a voice willing to speak truthfully about your Son. Let gratitude accompany me into my ordinary responsibilities. Amen.
