DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 156 OF 365
News Greater Than Their Fear
Read Mark 16The women approach Jesus’ tomb prepared to anoint a body, not to announce a resurrection. Their practical concern is the large stone blocking the entrance. In Mark 16:1–8, however, the stone has already been moved, and the young man inside redirects their attention from burial preparations to Jesus’ risen life. The crucified Jesus is no longer where his body had been laid. The women are then entrusted with a message for the disciples, with Peter specifically included, and directed toward a meeting in Galilee. Their trembling response keeps this scene from becoming a polished portrait of effortless faith. Astonishing news meets genuinely frightened people. Yet their fear does not change the announcement or erase the instruction they have received. For us, resurrection faith begins with attending to what has been announced about Jesus, rather than making our emotional readiness the measure of its truth.
Put the Word into practice
Write a brief explanation of Jesus’ resurrection using Mark 16:6–7, then share that message with one person rather than waiting until you feel completely confident.

How does the contrast between the women’s burial preparations and the message inside the tomb challenge expectations you bring to Jesus?
A prayerful response
Risen Jesus, steady me when your truth overwhelms my expectations. Help me receive the news of your life and speak about you honestly, even when I feel afraid.
