DAILY SCRIPTURE STUDY · DAY 123 OF 365
Rest Under a Gentle Teacher
Read Matthew 11Jesus ends Matthew 11 by inviting burdened people to come to him, but his invitation includes a surprising image: a yoke. He offers rest through learning from him, not through freedom from every responsibility. The contrast is between crushing weariness and life under a gentle, humble teacher. Those listening have just heard Jesus speak with authority about judgment and about revealing the Father. His gentleness therefore does not mean weakness or indifference to sin. The one who calls people to repentance also welcomes the weary into his instruction. For us, receiving his rest means more than seeking a moment of relief while resisting his direction. We come to Jesus as learners, trusting both his authority and his heart. His yoke is good because the teacher who places it upon us is not harsh, proud, or careless with our souls.
Put the Word into practice
Identify one responsibility that feels crushing today. Bring it to Jesus in prayer, then reread Matthew 11:28–30 and approach that responsibility as his learner rather than as someone who must carry it independently.

How does Jesus’ command to learn from him reshape what you expect his promised rest to mean?
A prayerful response
Jesus, I come to you weary and willing to learn. Help me trust your gentle heart without resisting your authority. Teach me to carry my responsibilities under your direction and receive the rest you offer.
